PURPLE POST November 2020

Hello everyone and welcome to the November edition of Purple Post

This is the final Purple Post for 2020 – and what a year it’s been.

You will all, by now, have received my letter, personally thanking you for your contribution to the company throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I won’t repeat everything I said in my letter, but I would like to reiterate my thanks for your commitment to Team Parenta, despite all the huge difficulties that we have faced.

Please can you all be available for an important company update on: Wednesday 2nd December at 12.30pm

Christmas Jumper Day is next Friday!

Even though we are all working remotely, it doesn't matter where you are in the country – on Christmas Jumper DayFriday 11th December, all you need to do is get your silliest jumper out and give £2 to Save the Children.

We will be having a company Zoom ‘get together’ on this day at 3.00 pm.

Please be there with your Christmas jumper on and a glass of something to raise - so we can toast the end of what has been a difficult year and look forward to a successful 2021.

Remember, you don't have to buy a new jumper. You can dig out last year's, or even take a normal jumper and add some tinsel! So get your woollies out and make the world better with a sweater!

Happy Holidays from your People Team!

We hope that you manage to have a lovely break over the holidays, stay safe and see you in the new year!

Annual leave carry-over
Annual leave carry-over will look a little bit different this year. As we are all aware, it has been a difficult year, making it a challenge for some departments to take holiday due to business demands. Holiday carry-over from December 2020 to the 2021 holiday year will be as follows:

  • Colleagues that have not been furloughed during 2020 will be allowed to carry over up to 12 days (pro rata).
  • Colleagues that have been furloughed will be allowed to take over the usual 5 days (pro rata).
  • For colleagues that have been furloughed, the carry over days will need to be booked and taken by 31st March 2021.
  • For colleagues not furloughed in 2020, a minimum of 5 carry over days must be used by 31st March 2021, with another 5 days used by 30th June 2021. The remaining 2 days must be used by 31st October 2021.
Have you been furloughed? How many days can I carry over? When do I need to use them all by?
I have been furloughed 5 days max 31st March 2021
I have not been furloughed 12 days max 5 days by 31st March 2021, 5 days by 30th June 2021, 2 days by 31st October 2021
There will be no opportunity to carry-over this leave beyond these dates. Please ensure that you book in your leave at the earliest opportunity to avoid losing your holiday. Holiday unused will be lost.
Meet the members of the Parenta Sales Team!

This year, we have formed a new sales team and we would love to introduce the whole team to you all!

Fran has been working for Parenta for just under 3 years. A little known fact about her is that she used to live in Ibiza. Fran’s heritage is quite mixed which includes being a ¼ Pakistani!

Denise:

Denise joined us this year. She is heavily involved in a charity that supports orphans in the Republic of Gambia, where she sponsors a sweet 3 year-old boy. Denise also loves a good glass of gin!

Paul B:

Paul joined us this year. Outside of work he is a scout leader who can wiggle his ears and do a handstand! Paul’s favourite holiday destination is Cornwall.

Paul W:

Paul joined us this year. He has previously lived and worked in Canada, his favourite holiday destination is Australia and he enjoys the gym!

Rebecca:

Rebecca has worked for Parenta for nearly 5 years! Rebecca loves cake, cross-stitching and sloths - she would love to have one as a pet!

Mark:

Mark joined us this summer and an interesting fact about him is that he once played a $5,000 dollar chip (that was not his) on one spin of a roulette! Mark loves to cycle, play football and run in his spare time.

Lee:

Lee joined Parenta during the summer. A fact about Lee is that her grandad was a Knight of the Order of St. Johns, as he was the person who introduced first aid training for British Airways. Lee also enjoys a glass of prosecco!

Charlie joined us earlier this year but previously worked as a Chef and does all of the cooking at home. Charlie is also a Triplet!

Energy saving tips as we work from home this winter - 20 ways to save energy and therefore save money

(Adapted from “20 ways to save”, Citizens Advice Bureau, 2020)

Save in the kitchen

  1. Use a bowl to wash-up rather than running a tap, reduce your washing machine use by one cycle a week, and only fill the kettle with the water you need and you could save around £36 a year in the kitchen.
  2. A dripping tap can waste more than 5,300 litres of water a year, so make sure your taps are properly turned off and change washers promptly when taps start to drip.

Save in the bathroom

  1. Spend one minute less in the shower each day and a family of four could save £75 a year on energy and water bills.
  2. A running tap wastes more than 6 litres of water every minute, so turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing your face.
  3. Replacing an inefficient shower head with a water efficient one could save a household of four people around £70 a year off gas bills and around £115 a year off water bills.

Save on lighting

  1. Turn your lights off when you’re not using them. If you switch a light off for just a few seconds, you will save more energy than it takes for the light to start up again. This will save you around £14 a year on your annual energy bills.
  2. Replace your bulbs as and when you can with energy efficient LEDs – on average it could save about £35 a year on bills.

Save on appliances

  1. Turning your appliances off standby mode can save you £30 a year and remember not to leave laptops and mobile phones on charge unnecessarily.

Save on heating

  1. If you have a timer on your central heating system, set the heating and hot water to come on only when required.
  2. If you turn down your main thermostat by 1 degree, you can save around 10% on your energy bill. But make sure your home is warm enough during cold weather. Cold homes can damage your health.
  3. Installing a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator valves and using these controls efficiently could save you around £75 a year.
  4. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows and check for draughts around windows and doors.
  5. Draught-proofing of windows and doors and blocking cracks in floors and skirting boards can save around £20 a year on energy bills.

 Save by switching

  1. Use the Citizens Advice energy price comparison tool to see if you can save money by switching energy tariff or supplier.

Save by getting extra support

  1. Do a home energy check to find out about savings of up to £130 a year on household energy bills. Visit the Simple Energy Advice website and get personalised energy savings advice.
  2. Visit your local Citizens Advice office to get advice in person about how to reduce your energy bills.
  3. If anyone in your household is receiving benefits, contact your energy supplier and see what support they can provide. They should be able to tell you what help is available through the Energy Company Obligation.
  4. If you need a little extra help from your energy company - including large print bills or more support during a power cut - you can apply to be added to your electricity network priority services register.
  5. Check if you are eligible for the Warm Home Discount. Energy suppliers can provide rebates to households on certain benefits. The rebate is £140 for 2019/20 and you should contact your electricity supplier directly to see if you qualify.
  6. If you live in Wales, contact the Welsh Government’s Nest scheme on 0808 808 2244 to see if you are eligible for a package of free home energy efficiency improvements such as a new boiler, central heating or insulation.

Entice new customers with the power of testimonials!

We have received some fantastic testimonials this year. The positive endorsements that we receive from our existing customers are not only a great way for giving praise to the individuals or teams concerned, but are used as a valuable marketing tool to attract new customers!

Please ensure that after every positive interaction you have with a customer you ask them if they would be willing to send in a short testimonial and then follow up with the usual link https://www.parenta.com/testimonial/
I have been in contact with all the team members at Parenta on a regular basis and from start to finish the service has been second to none.

The team are very friendly, professional and efficient. No issues raised have ever been left unresolved and this has all resulted in a great partnership. The team have always provided me with excellent customer service which in my opinion is your core strength. The process has always been easy due to their clear instructions.

I was particularly impressed with the service during lockdown as the Parenta Team were always available. Their excellent service never faltered and the team continued to respond in a very timely manner. This provided me with a welcome stress and worry free process during a difficult time.
Anita, Littlebrook Nurseries
I have been really happy with the support that I have received when I have a query regarding Fee Planner. It is quick & efficient and the query is always answered in full. The customer service administrators are always friendly and very supportive.
Rachel Tisor, Jungle Tots Day Nursery
I just want to say a massive thank you to Jeanette for getting me through my apprenticeship after having such a struggle with the many assessors I have had. She has got me through my apprenticeship in 8 weeks and finally taught me in a way that I could understand. I am extremely thankful to her.
Sarah Long
I am so glad that I had the chance to do my Level 3 childcare course with Parenta, it has been a delightful experience very smooth and efficient. Thanks to Tina Butler everything was always on time, from setting new assignments to marking them. Tina was very helpful during my course and was always easy to contact when needed. I had set goals for myself and we have spoken about this with Tina Butler that I wanted become room leader, I am happy and proud to say I have become the baby room leader!!
