Framework to Standards

Exciting and prosperous times lie ahead as we embark on a new ‘Standards’ journey with a deadline of 31st March 2020!

All apprenticeships are changing. ‘Standards’ are replacing ‘Framework’ which is great news for all of us.
Why are we changing?
  • Frameworks will no longer exist past July 2020. These changes are a requirement from both the EFSA and Ofsted and apply to all training providers, not just Parenta.

  • The main purpose is to place greater emphasis on the teaching and learning (T&L) time between apprentice and assessor and to involve the employer in a greater capacity.

  • Look at the figures on the right – here are the projected sales for the next few years, together with the expected profit. We have been quite conservative with the sales figures, but the bottom line profit is still pretty impressive!

What are the main differences?

Using our Level 3 Childcare EYE apprenticeship (the first to change) as the example:
  • Course duration will increase to potentially 18 months which includes a 3 month allocation for (EPA) End Point Assessment. The EPA includes a knowledge test as well as a Professional discussion underpinned by the learner's portfolio.

  • The course value increases from £2,500 to £6,000 (contribution for non-levy employers of learners over the age of 19 remains at 5%).

  • The standards really focus on the skills, knowledge and behaviours an apprentice will need to have learned by the end of their apprenticeship.

  • Standards are occupation-focused; they are not qualification-led: the learning happens throughout the apprenticeship and the apprentice is assessed at the end by completing a knowledge test as well as an assessment by way of a professional discussion.

  • Our Level 3 Childcare apprenticeship is changing from 1st April and all other framework apprenticeships by 31st July latest.

How does this affect the day-to-day business?
  • There will be a lot of additional work (which has already started) including changes in processes, developing new learning programmes and breaking down the new qualification criteria.

  • There will be a transition period as our existing learners complete their framework courses.

  • But…again, look at the figures – this change will have a profound impact on our business!

What does this mean for us as employees?
  • It means that there is huge potential for us, collectively, to make the biggest profit margin that we have ever made which in turn means that the likelihood of an LLP pay out is high.
What next?

Much work is being carried out behind the scenes every day. A committee has been formed to steer this important project through until implementation – please ask your department head questions if you have any – that is what we are here for!

Regular updates will be posted here as to how things are progressing but this is priority for the business so it’s “all hands on deck”!

Together, let's implement Standards by 31st March 2020 to see Remarkable results for us all!
